There’s nothing quite like meeting Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of the Disney gang for the first time. There’s also nothing quite like meeting them again and again. Meeting the characters at Disneyland is a right of passage for many, and that’s why we would like to help you meet a ton of them on your next trip to the park.
Now, there’s something you need to know about character interaction at Disneyland. Unlike her sister at Walt Disney World, Disneyland characters are a little unique. For instance, at Walt Disney World, there are designated spots that characters stand in, and you wait in line to meet them. Not so at Disneyland.
At Disneyland, many of the characters you want to meet are literally roaming the streets interacting with guests along the way. So, there are some important things you need to remember:
1. Go in the morning
If you want to catch a lot of characters, especially classic characters, make sure you’re at the park in the morning. Many characters are out and about in the early morning, especially Mickey and the Gang. You can find them on Main Street and many of the classic characters between Fantasyland and the Matterhorn.
2. Understand that some characters won’t stop to take pictures
I know what some of you are all thinking. “I paid good money to be here! They should take a picture with me!” The truth is, many of the characters are on their way somewhere else and just can’t stop to take pictures with you. It’s not that they are being rude, they may just not have the time right that second.
3. Ask politely to take a picture. If they can’t, move on.
While some can’t, you might catch one that will stop long enough for you to take a photo. Don’t freak out if they can’t. It’s not the end of the world, and chances are, you might catch them at a better time later on in the day.
4. Have Your Phone/Camera Ready
These characters move fast. You might only get a second to snap a photo. Also, if they DO stop, they won’t have long, so make sure your camera is ready.
5. Know where to go
We’ve put together a map below to show you the areas you need to be to find the most characters. If you want to meet Princesses and Classic Characters, you can find a lot in the red and purple areas. If you’re wanting to meet Mickey and the Gang, you need to be in Main Street USA.
There’s also other areas to meet characters, and you can find all of those areas in the Disneyland App. However, you can meet a lot that’s not in the app, just by following the map we’ve put together for you.
